Texas Instruments 30XIISTKT1L1B Ti 30XIIS Teacher Kit Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I ordered the teacher kit and received six plastic calculator cases, each able to hold 10 calculators. There was no kit. The description states the kit includes calculators, a case and teaching tools for the calculators in english and spanish. I returned the kit and received a refund without any problems. The company was very responsive and helpful in the return process, however they did not address the issue that I never received the item as described or if they even carry that item.

Statistics with the TI-83 Plus & TI-83 Plus SE Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I purchased this in my struggles to muscle through an elementary, college level statistics course. For me, it was a waste of money. I found much more clear and concise instructions for free online. ..Wish I would have done more internet searching before I wasted my money. Obviously, it does have some redeeming qualities, otherwise, it would not have received such high reviews from others (which is why I purchased it to begin with); it just wasn't helpful to me.

The information age has made statistics one of the most important branches of mathematics. It should be explored using real data from interesting and current sources. Using this book, students enter real data onto spreadsheets or into statistical plots on the TI-83 Plus while you guide their learning and help them draw appropriate inferences. Keying sequences guide them through the labyrinth of statistics menus on the TI-83 Plus without the need to page through the calculator manual. Detailed solutions at the back of the book help students over obstacles to their learning and the application of various statistical techniques accessible on the TI-83 Plus menus and submenus are absorbed with minimal effort as the concepts of statistics are explored. Programs are included to perform experiments such as those applied in Monte Carlo investigations. Historical vignettes are included to add a human dimension to the mathematical excursions. The topics included are statistical inference, data graphs, central tendency, measures of dispersion, correlation, regression lines, statistical distributions such as the normal distribution, the Central Limit Theorem, sampling, Monte Carlo methods, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. The probability density functions for the binomial, normal, t, Chi Square and F distributions are defined and their properties are explored in terms of their application to tests of hypotheses. For those with the TI-83 Plus Silver Edition, this book includes references to the statistical simulations involving coin and dice tossing experiments found on the Applications menu.

Sharp EL-506RB Scientific Calculator Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I work as an Engineer and I find the 32 physical constants and the 32 conversions to be invaluable. I've looked and looked around at those graphing calculators that brag all sorts of fancy functions useful to Scientists and Engineers, yet none of them have the constants and conversions that so often come in handy! I have used the older EL 506L for several years now, and this new edition can't be beat with the new features such as: Formula Memory for storing customized formulas, Multi-line playback replays entered equations, Continuous Calculation function that allows user to keep the prior result for the next calculation, Constant calculation, Differential and Integral Calculus functions, and 2 variable statistics.
The buttons are a perfect size for most fingers, are easy to push, and even have a slight contour to fit the finger tips. Access to different functions are logically laid out and easy to find and access. This calculator boasts a total of 326 total functions, and is a fantastic value.

Kenko Scientific Calculator fx-82LB Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Back in the late 80's, this was Casio's top-of-the-line calculator.
Since then, Casio has gone on to pursue higher margin calculators, with more and more features, meanwhile they keep stamping these guys out under various brand names.
However, cramming these features onto your calculator will more than likely do you more harm harm than good, especially as most college classes and textbooks are not geared towards programmable calculators, so many people actually (myself included) prefer the simplicity of the calculators of this era in order just to focus on the problem at hand.
This model uses 2xAA batteries (very easy to get) and should last you basically forever.
Unlike solar powered calculators, this one will give you the answer to the toughest problems, like 69! (factorial) absolutely instantly. That slight delay can can cause you to lose focus more than you realize--until you don't have it.
By the way, V.P.A.M. stands for Visually Perfect Algebraic Method.
For some reason, I have always preferred the layout of this calculator to that of similar TI models, although that is a matter of taste.

Casio FX-270W Plus Scientific Calculator Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I bought this calculator when I started high school in 1997 and now after 11 years and many drops-on-the-ground later, it continues to work perfectly...I haven't even had to change the batteries yet either! This calculator is easy to use, has robust features, and is super dependable. 5 stars!

With its large built-in library of functions and exclusive Visually Perfect Algebraic Method, the FX-270W from Casio is a powerful computational tool. The two-line LCD is easy to see and navigate, with large color coded keys that are grouped by function for ease of use. The calculator comes with 159 built-in functions including probability, fraction, math, coordinate conversion, regression analysis, and cubic root functions.
The 10-digit (plus two-digit exponent) display has an 11-digit accuracy, and displays formulas and results simultaneously so that you can change numbers and recalculate without having to input the entire calculation. The FX-270W has both engineering and scientific modes and can easily calculate degrees, radians and gradients. Weighing only 3.5 ounces, the FX-270W is easy to transport and has a small 3.375-by-6.125-by-0.5-inch frame. HEW48GII - 48gII Programmable Graphing Calculator Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The calculator itself is probably a fine instrument. It may be great for users who have already learned somehow to use it. It may be fine for users who do not need to use its advanced features.
But if you need help in learning how to use its advanced features, documents supplied by HP are poor aids. By searching I found other learning aids (a book by Thomas Barber and a tutorial by Merv Newton at Thiel College) which fill some gaps. But still I wish I had a clear, well edited, helpfully organized users manual.
My difficulty in using the calculator does not pertain to its Reverse Polish Notation RPN. I have no difficulty with RPN.
To tell a story, I was trying to learn to use the calculator with the User's Manual supplied with the calculator by HP. Pushing keys in the sequence they suggest, I found myself locked in the equation editor when I reached the end of one section of the User's Manual. I could not figure out how to get out of the equation editor. The manual did not tell. I could not figure out how to clear or reset the thing. If you turn it off and then on again, it comes back to the same place. Later somewhere I found how to do a "warm restart" (Hold down ON while pressing and releasing F3).
I still hope to learn to use this calculator because I need the powers it promises. But good training manuals appear to be lacking

Canon F710 Dual-Line Scientific Calculator Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This calculator($6.99) is:
1) Cheap
2) Power packed(3 mem variables, preset formulas)
3) Durable(cover is hard and does not have easy-to-break edges - very easy to slide)
4) Clear(large two line lcd display for a scientific calculator of this price, color-coded buttons to find the needed buttons more quickly)
5) Relatively attractive(silver finish and glossy top that surrounds the display)
I like this calculator so far since it cost me mere pocket change. Since I am a high school calculus student, I am not allowed to use a graphing calculator on any test. However, I am able to use scientific calculators. This scientific calculator, unlike many other generics, have certain features desirable for a student of mathematics. If you are out of school already, I would just use either software on the computer or one of the high quality graphing calculators.

CASIO FX115-MS SCIENTIFIC CALCULATOR WITH 300 BUILT-IN FUNCTIONS Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Have used Casio scientific calculators throughout my life. I've had my 115MS for some three years now. I use it for electronics design and I've been constantly amazed at how every special function I ever need is there. Binary/hex/decimal conversions, engineering conversions including metric prefixes (kilo, micro, nano, pico etc. which I find simply indispensable), complex numbers, etc. The CALC function is particularly useful when I want to see how different values will alter the answer to a formula/equation.
One thing that peeves me though is that it takes three keystrokes to store a value in memory (variables). That's cumbersome.
Overall this inexpensive calculator gets a three thumbs up from me. If Casio makes an exact model with added programmability, I think it just might be the perfect calculator for me.

Casio FX-55X Solar Scientific Calculator Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This calculator is easy to use and had good button feel. It does fraction calculations (a great function for students under 5th grader who are just learning about fractions but don't know about decimals). It reduces fractions and also does division with remainders. My daughter uses it to check her math. It is a great little calculator. Also comes with a hard case - good for carrying in the backpack.

(More customer reviews)The calculator is good but the thing is when I press one button, the one next to it is somehow pressed too, so I never see on the screen what I have to see. Maybe it is just this particular one. I ended up using a TI-83 for my financial calculations. It is more complicated, but it works much better.

Sharp EL9600C Graphing Calculator Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This calculator is a very good one and one that works equivalently in all ways using either direct keystrokes or stylus motions. It is largely no longer available which is a shame, but some of the internal electronics software is clearly getting quite outdated (and a little bit sluggish compared to some other more recent calculators, etc.). It performs really well however, so if you want to try a stylus-based calculator to see if you would like a much more advanced one like the Casio Classpad330, this is a great one to try out.
All the expected standard (as well as several advanced functions) and numerous data plotting options (with split-screen capability including the option of both a table and a plot displayed simultaneously, etc.) and numerous and reliable statistical operations for detailed data analysis, etc. are available on this fine unit. It also comes with a slide-on, standard heavy plastic cover and a very good manual with very clearly explained operations and examples. I recommend it, if you can still find it, without any reservations.
